Paul Paynter is the Business Development Director at GERI (General Energy Recovery Inc.), a service company that focuses upon providing clients with steam and flue gases using Direct Contact Steam Generation (DCSG) technology to enhance heavy oil and oil sands production, with fewer emissions and using less water than traditional steam injection facilities used in CSS or SAGD operations. GERI’s technology has been successfully modelled in the laboratory and tested at multiple wells in Alberta and Saskatchewan. It is a privately funded technology company with field operations based out of Lloydminster and its head office located in downtown Calgary.
Voluntary Board roles held by Paul have included Global Chamber (Chair of the Calgary Chapter), Alberta Clean Technology Industry Alliance (ACTia), the British and Commonwealth Business Association of Canada and the Calgary Council for Advancing Technology. He also holds an Advisory role with Crownsmen Partners, a media company based in the BC Lower Mainland specializing in Mining and Energy content.
Currently based on Vancouver Island in the Nanoose Bay/Parksville area, and working both remotely but closely with Calgary and Alberta clients, Paul is married to Claudia, who is a successful home stager. They have two grown-up children Holly and Guy, who are based in Alberta and BC respectively. Paul is a keen skier, golfer and a long-suffering soccer fan of his hometown club Bristol City. He also claims direct descent from explorer, naturalist and sometime 17th Century pirate William Dampier, who was the first person to circumnavigate the globe three times, and reputedly first coined such words as chopsticks, barbecue and avocado.
